Star Trek

I just got home from Star Trek and I really liked it a lot! Confusions and plot holes associated with time travel aside (which can never really be avoided) I thought it was really well done!
I'm just wondering who else has seen it and what you thought.

On a side note Terminator Salvation looks AMAZING and any movie that uses one of my favorite Nine Inch Nails songs in the trailer is ok by me.

I LOVED Star Trek.  The story was silly, but the characters and the universe were just amazing. I was on a total Star Trek high after seeing it.  Haven't enjoyed a Star Trek movie like that since "The Undiscovered Country." The new one was the kick in the butt the series has needed for a while now.
Plus I loved all the in jokes for the Trek-mastas.  Good times all around.  Even the Beastie Boys part.  Haha.

I really enjoyed it as well, although I did find a few parts to be a little cheesy. That being said, I suppose it wouldn't be "true to the original" without them being cheesy, so it's forgivable! I was just a little confused. I was not sure if they were trying to reinvent the series, or simply portray it as a prequel. It seemed as though it was kind of stuck halfway in between. They took certain liberties with the Star Trek "lore", yet they kept a lot of things the same which they could have changed and improved upon from the original series, which logically they would have changed were they looking to reinvent the series. Or maybe I'm thinking about it too much. Either way it was a good movie, though Nero wasn't terribly well written.

It's all an alternate reality to the originals.  I like that approach.  It gives them good wiggle room to do some cool stuff without worrying too much about the canon.

Oh no? Wolverine really wasn't good. I'll probably still end up seeing it because of curiosity. The feedback I've heard from it is "don't expect to see a X-men movie" it's something completely other.

Man, I'm so glad they explained away all the previous years of scary lore with the convenient "timeline changed! All invalidated! Clean slate reboot!" plot device. Since trekkies scare me, that was very much welcome.

And it helped that the movie kicked so much ass, it made me pine for Descent: Freespace like nothing else.
