By now the news has spread like wildfire - although most folks already knew that such a thing was on the horizon.

I don't have a PSP (my DS Lite fills my portable needs, thank you very much), and I'm not entirely certain that this new iteration is enough to make me bite. Elements of the Go are nice, Bluetooth connectivity, the slide phone style is nice, it's smaller and I even like the lack of UMD.

I do feel like they could have taken the idea even further.  A second analogue stick, touch screen, and overall I feel like it lacks a certain amount of "wow" factor.

What are your thoughts on the PSP Go?

I think it's a move in the right direction, but like the DSi, doesn't commit too much to a drastic enough upgrade to warrant a purchase. I like some things about it - like the slide out idea (though not the design itself - looks too much like an old Palm PDA) and I also like the on-board memory. But I would have preferred a complete overhaul. To me it looks too goofy.

If Apple were to come out with an iPhone or iPod Touch with a slide out control pad, it would kill both this and the DSi in terms of aesthetics.

And in addition to this, I'm still excited to see what the Zune HD will offer in terms of mobile gaming. Then again, maybe I'm getting too hopeful.

The DS is great, and so is the PSP - but newer hardware should be leaps beyond its previous iterations and not subtle upgrades. Then again, until we really see what the PSP Go can do, we should definitely reserve judgement.

Nick Rumas posted an interesting, short post on Phantom Leap about the redesign:

The fan redesign and the real deal are so similar, but the fan design is amazing.

Where are the speakers on the fan redesign?
