Dammit, Jorge.

Now the pressure is on.  Hopefully this doesn't turn into Duke Nukem Forever.  Speaking of which, Wired magazine has a great article on the doomed game.  Here's the link: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/fail_duke_nukem/

Great read. I can't believe how many copies Duke 3D sold; was that really the shizzle way back when? Wow...

That was an excellent Wired article. Would love more journalism like this re. games industry.

Rituro - oh man, Duke was really the man back in the day. I played it and the expansion packs religiously - I think the humor really sold me on it, above all else. For several years, probably all the way up to Halo 2, I didn't even really feel like it was necessary to play another shooter game, having worn myself out on Duke all those years ago.

Looking at some of the clips that float around on the net of DN:F, I can see how silly it all is, and that in the intervening years the industry has outgrown the juvenile antics of Duke, or at least replaced 90's style silliness with a modern equivalent.

Fixed for you. ;)

For what I remember of Duke 3D, my uncles absolutely loved it. Me... I just couldn't see the huge appeal, possibly because I was still thinking Duke 2 was an awesome platformer (forget rocket-jumping, FLAMETHROWER-JUMPING, ZOMG) and didn't really start drooling over shooters until Half-Life and Deus Ex came along.

Duke sort of ushered me out of the genre.  Thank God for Valve and the City 7 Project.

One day, I'll play Half-Life 2 the way it should be, on the PC. I gave it a serious go on the original X-Box, and a bit again on the PS3, but both were buggy piles that didn't shine a favorable light on such a venerable game.

Also: no strippers? no pig-cops? bah! just kidding!
