I started playing MadWorld. Damn that game is funny, fun, and a little messed up, too. Also there's Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, and I'm having fun with the extra puzzles and unlocking everything in it still.

Got into the Star Trek Online beta! Most of what you've already read is true: space combat good, away team combat "City of Heroes in Star Trek outfits".

but the question is... are you a Vulcan? Klingon? Or something more obscure like a Ferrengi, Andorian, some kind of gelatinous slug monster?

Since I'm unimaginative and not a Trekkie, I'm human. My chief tactical officer, however, is Vulcan, as is my science officer due to a major glitch in the purchasing of bridge officers. (I wanted a bolian, dammit! And a female one at that!)

Although they appear, Ferengi isn't a playable race (yet; still beta), but there is the convenient "Unknown" playabale race that lets you generate whatever freaky space face you want.

Can you choose to be Borg and then just have someone else play the game for you? Or, is there a Borg option where every single Borg player's keystrokes are added together and divided in real time to determine the movement of the collective? Because that shit would be unnecessarily complicated yet also hilarious.

Ha, that would be awesome... but no, Borg are purely AI/NPC. Hints of Borg cubes (seriously, cubes? In space? WTF?) can be seen fleeing the tutorial area and blowing up Borg probes is your weapons training.

This is just me being a huge Trek nerd here, but everything that I've seen from the trailers suggest that the Borg play a prominent role in the game as "the big bad". The Borg was totally scary and threatening in the TNG days, and even that one movie, but I think subsequent shows, mostly Voyager, really played them out. A more frugal approach would have elevated their status as a threat, but since your blowing up borg thingies in a tutorial, I wonder how much of that is lost now.

It's still pretty awesome that you get to fight them though, like I said, I'm pretty nerdy about Trek after all.

I agree - The Borg were totally terrifying in their earlier appearances. Realistically there would be no way of actually stopping them, too. So the whole Voyager connection (and series, for that matter) was pretty annoying to me.

For what it's worth, the part where you drop out of warp into a graveyard of at least fifty Federation hulks as a Borg cube warps out seems to make it clear they're not to be trifled with.

Still, as a non-Trekkie, I got a lecture from my boss (who is a Trekkie) on how the disruptor array I'm using is technically illegal because of the manner in which a human dies, blah blah blah. I glazed over at that point and began debating whether or not I could buy something with even more "oomph" just to see what kind of reaction that would get.

The other day picked up Braid on the PSN, taking advantage of a deal that is currently running:

http://kotaku.com/5454187/critter-crunch-braid--more-now-50-cheaper-on-psn

50% off a good selection of games. $15 was too rich for my blood re. Braid, even though I hear it's fantastic, but at the reduced price I couldn't resist. Also, if you haven't tried it yet, Critter Crunch is now like, $3.50, which terrific. So check em out, while the deal lasts!

As for Braid, I've played about 2 hours worth, still getting a feel for the game. But I like it so far, stayed up pretty late last night, the mysterious tone of the game, the sounds of "goombas" dying and coming back to life, slow motion groaning - made for a creepy midnight atmosphere.

I just started playing Batman: Arkham Asylum and I'm really digging it so far.  I liked the demo, but I never got around to picking it up, but I won my fantasy football league and 1st prize was a game of our choice.  I'm also playing my way through the Modern Warfare 2 single player.

I just finished PixelJunk Shooter and I'm now going back to find all of the treasures.

Nice!

I am loving No More Heroes 2. It's so much better than the first one.

IcemanFTW, I'm glad to hear you're liking Batman so far, it was one of my top games on 09 for sure. The guys at Rocksteady really "get" Batman - and there are parts of that game that might remain with you long after playing it.

I'm really hyped up about No More Heroes 2, and I don't even have a Wii nor have I played the first. It just looks like a cool, fun, and hilarious game, something that is lacking in so many games these days.
