Army Choice in Empire: Total War

I had an interesting conversation with a friend about choice of army in Empire: Total War. He confessed he'd only ever tried Great Britain in Campaign mode, saving all the others for skirmish. While I couldn't really chastise him too hard, having played only the Road to Indepedence factions, the Ottoman Empire and Poland, it did get me wondering: do we all have our pet army in the Grand Campaign?

Personally, I love Poland. Russia is my ally; I have no holdings outside of Europe to divide my focus; the potential for expansion is huge; and did I mention Russia is my ally?
