For those of you who love your board games but can't be botherd to clean the house up so people aren't weirded out when you invite them over to play, Greed Corp. is a fantastic indi game that combines straight-up, land-destroying harvesting with hex-based board game sensibilities. Everyone takes turns, everyone schemes and plots, everyone laughs when some moron plunks down a harvester that will eventually doom their home island to ruin. Good times.
And speaking of board games, finally got Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition! Haven't touched "Blitz" mode yet because I'm too busy punching turn-based humies inna face. WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!

I rediscovered Transport Tycoon Deluxe this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised to find out there's an open source project dedicated to improving the original by reverse-engineering it, then updating the graphics, sound, etc. It's called OpenTTD and it has joined the list of many things distracting me from finishing Dragon Age.

If anyone'e up for some R.U.S.E. while the beta is ongoing, I'll be free later tonight. Gotta say, the titular "ruses" aren't as omnipresent as I'd hoped they'd be, but the game is still very, very fun.

I saw the phrase Might & Magic and my interest was immediately perked.
Rey-o, how is M&M DS? Does it play like the classic games of old (e.g., M&M 4: World of Xeen), the Heroes of M&M turn-based games, some sort of Fire Emblem/FF Tactics-esque RPG...?

So, there was this Olympic thing a while back? You may have noticed? There was ice, snow, sliding, winter-y-ish stuff... ringing any bells?
...no?
Oh well. But seriously, did anyone indulge in some Olympic viewing over the past few weeks? Any favourite moments?

Finally beat Adventure mode in Plants vs. Zombies, thereby washing the bitter taste of Borderlands out of my mouth. Next: some long-overdue, full-steam-ahead progress on Dragon Age.

Gaming / All Platforms / Borderlands: Or, Why MMOs Still Suck

Just beat the big baddie in Borderlands. (Well, technically, I had to do it twice as I CTD'd after the killing shot landed the first time. Not happy about that, either.) What was my reward for slugging my way through "Diablo with guns"? Bigger guns? Cash? A satisfying ending cutscene and/or resolution to a barebones yet serviceable story?
Nope!
I got crap-all, and that was after the CTD. Sweet bupkis. Nada. Zilch. At the very least, that's what it felt like.
Then I was dumped back into a thinner-than-thin epilogue, wherin I completed the quest chain I'd started and was cheerfully reminded there were still some side-quests from way back that I could complete! Joy!!
The first thought that went through my mind, no lie: "Thank goodness I'm not paying $15 a month for this kind of crap, otherwise there's a good chance I'd be going mental on some customer service representative right now."
Look, I can handle a Diablo-clone as well as the next person, but at least the original had an ending preceded by a decent story. Stringing me along for 2-3 months and then leaving me hanging is just piss-poor design. Did the money run out? Did they get lazy? Did the writers decide en masse, "Screw it, that's good enough"? Whatever the reason, it blows like some cheap-ass free-to-play MMO: grind, grind, grind with your only reward being more grinding. Spare me, please, whoever is designing Borderlands 2 (or the tie-up-ends DLC).

Yaaaaay! My unnecessary whining serves me yet again!
Have to say, I thought that was one of your better podcasts. Despite not having any sort of planned (or at least announced) structure, the three of you had a coherent, flowing discussion that was a real treat to Torchlight. I mean, "listen to". Yeah. (Damn you, Jackson!) And I totally agree about the DJ Hero soundtrack -- easily the reason to own the game, or at least troll YouTube for compilation postings.
Also, I'd like to point that I fought Shadow in Deertase 2 the first time around, thank you very much. Hmph.

Also, personal activities aside, what did you think of the Halo game? Ba-zing! Count it! And to answer your question in the style of a recent podcast, "Torchlight". MAKE A PODCAST THREAD IN THE ANNOUNCEMENTS FORUM SO WE CAN DISCUSS PLZKTHX.
